Wedding Invitation / Graphic Design — 2014 · Stephen & Yvonne Ntow

Stephen + Yvonne

Stephen + Yvonne — two gold lovebirds seen from behind, their wings meeting as a heart, perched on black thorned wire above a gold script name

Wedding invite for Stephen + Yvonne Ntow, built on a pair of gold lovebirds whose wings meet as a single heart.

The cover sets the two birds back to back against a grey field, heads bent together and plumage layered so that they read as one shape rather than two. They perch on a length of black wire strung with thorns and curling tendrils, and the names fall below in a gold script with the date — August 9th, 2014 — in a small serif beneath.

Inside, that plumage is opened out until it fills the page. A macro of overlapping gold feathers becomes the ground for the invitation text and for two passages of verse set in dark grey italic: “Many are the stars I see, but in my eye no star like thee,” and “Love is a symbol of eternity. It wipes out all sense of time, destroying all memory of a beginning and all fear of an end.” The names return in a calligraphic hand under the two family surnames, Aboagye Ntow and Anankwa Boafo, above the venue and time, an RSVP block, and two gold bands photographed resting in a down-lined nest.

A fourth panel carries the directions. A street map of North Kaneshie is redrawn in flat grey with the roads picked out in gold, the chapel marked at Qodesh and the full address set along the foot of the card.
