PURC began as a competition win. In 2012 two of the studio's directors were part of the six-person team that won the design and construction of the Head Office of PURC — the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission — in Accra. The design concentrates the building's public identity in a tall oval glass spine — daylit circulation by day, a lit vertical signature at dusk — while the working floors step outward on both sides in deep horizontal bands that read as sun shading from a distance and as solid massing up close.
At ground level a shallow canopy on angled props extends the tower's geometry into a covered arrival space, giving the regulator a civic forecourt. The presentation set was rendered as a monochrome study in massing and light, so the reading of the building depends on shadow, proportion and the contrast between the glazed core and its layered wings.
The studio's brief on the job ran from architecture and interior design through to architectural visualization, graphic design and design documentation, modelled and rendered in SketchUp, 3ds Max and V-Ray. First published by the studio on 20 August 2021. View the original post on X.
