Everything begins as a pencil drawing. The couple’s names were lettered by hand in an outlined script, shaded along the strokes until they read as dimensional, then looped with flourishes until the two lines lock into a single shape. A smaller ghost line above carries the names again in plain cursive. Alongside the logotype sit the parts that support it: an M-and-A monogram whose heart is assembled from tight graphite curls, and a ruled panel of scrollwork studies — acanthus spirals shaded solid on one edge and left open on the other. Those curls return as a small ornament set between the two names inside the invitation.
The invitation itself is a tall panel in magenta. Two plain gold bands are threaded onto a twisted gold rope and pulled into a knot at its centre, the rope running off to either edge of the card. The finished logotype sits below in white with a thin drop shadow, and the date — November 30th, 2013 — in a serif between two small flourishes above a bed of pink roses.
Inside, the palette changes to teal and the rendering changes to line. Two hands draw the eye across the lower third of the panel: one outstretched, the other holding a gold band between thumb and finger, about to place it. Above them the names are set twice over, calligraphic first and roman caps second — Maurice Marvin Abbey and Abena Shika Asante — followed by the date, Winners Chapel International in North Kaneshie, a 9.30am start and a note that cocktails follow at the same venue. Two named RSVP contacts and a verse close the panel: “Do two people start travelling together without arranging to meet?” (Amos 3:3).
The programme keeps the magenta for its cover, setting “Our Wedding Programme” in white above the logotype knocked out of a white scalloped badge — the lettering now magenta on paper-white, the only place in the suite where it reverses. Two interlocked bands sit lower on the cover with the date beneath them. Inside, the first page returns to teal on white: the welcome, the names, the details of the day, a dashed rule and Proverbs 18:22. The second is headed FUNCTIONARIES in a magenta badge and lists the officiating ministers, the counsellors and the custodians of gifts, with Proverbs 31:29 at the foot and each page number carried inside a small magenta heart. The back cover drops the hands and the ring back onto a large heart outline, pale hearts rising above it, and signs the work as Revival Design + VFX Studios.
