ELO Conference

A 2011 conference campaign for ELO, the Exceed League Organisation: a web advertisement film for the Mission Possible Series built from a chrome logo reveal, blue particle bursts and a rotating wireframe globe carrying speaker captions, with a printed poster for the same date.

ELO — the Exceed League Organisation — needed a short promotional spot for the Mission Possible Series conference, an event built around a lineup of speakers, and the studio was asked to make it for the web. The problem was scale: a title card and a list of names had to feel like a broadcast campaign rather than a slide deck, on a timeline short enough to sit on a website.

The structure is a single continuous sequence. A logo reveal on black hands off to an energy burst, the burst resolves into a glowing blue globe centred on Africa, and heads-up display graphics close in around it. Each speaker then animates in as a lower third over the same turning earth and animates out before the next.

Everything is built in blue and black. The palette runs from deep navy space to cyan filaments, with white lens flares and chrome lettering for contrast; the type is a wide, bevelled techno face that reads as hardware rather than stationery. The frames hold still long enough for the captions to be legible, then the light effects reset.

The film was delivered as a web advertisement and is shown here as sixteen still frames pulled from the timeline, from the opening logo to the closing Mission Possible card; the seventeenth plate is the printed poster the same campaign carried. Published as a motion design portfolio piece, the sequence demonstrates the studio’s particle and compositing work and gives the conference a visual identity in one repeatable format.

The poster is the print half of that identity, built from the same parts on a black ground: the chrome ELO wordmark at the top, the wide bevelled MISSION POSSIBLE SERIES headline beneath it, and the same blue earth with a reticle locked over West Africa. Where the film animates the speaker captions, the poster stacks them — Albert Ocran of Combert Impressions, Albert Onkrah of Hope Coalition, Adiza Brimah-Annan of Opulence Consult, Kwaku Simtim-Miso of Sapphire Ghana Limited, and Stephen Adei, past rector of GIMPA — above a music billing for King’s Jubilee, Too Deep, Jazzy Sammy and Nana Quabinna. Two heads-up read-outs carry the practical information, the destination at Trinity Campus, Regent, Accra and the time at 1:00 PM, with the date set as 18.03.11.

The project was published as ELO MISSION POSSIBLE CONFERENCE — WEB AD — RDVS. DESIGN; the full set is on Behance, and the film above is the motion piece from that gallery. The studio also posted the poster to its own blog on 7 June 2012 as MISSION POSSIBLE - GRAPHIC DESIGN, credited to Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop; that post is on blogspot. Both records carry the event date 18.03.11, which the film’s own end card repeats, so the work is dated to 2011 here — the 2014 this project carried before was the Behance gallery’s date, not the commission’s.
