The sheet is one idea carried by type. The theme is stacked down the top half in six short lines — SUS, TAIN, ABLE in chartreuse over ARCH, ITEC, TURE in olive — so that two words break into syllables and read as a single block, while the explanatory line, its relevance to Ghana’s built environment, sits under it in white capitals set tight across the measure. The dates run in chartreuse again, then a black bar carries the event lockup near the foot: design bold, week thin, _2011 in white. Behind all of it is a photograph of bamboo, hazed so the culms read as texture rather than scenery, and the association’s credit and web address close the sheet small along the bottom.
The date on the listing comes from the work and from the client, not from the blog. The poster prints designweek_2011 and 2nd march - 5th march; the association’s own site, which calls itself “the official blog for the DESIGN WEEK organized by ASAG”, announced it in January 2011 as “this year in march ASAG will organize a design week with the theme — ‘SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE- Its Relevance to Ghana’s Built Environment’”. The studio published the poster a year later, on 7 June 2012, under the title ASAG DESIGN WEEK POSTER - GRAPHIC DESIGN, and that post is where the client and the tools come from: the client is named as the Architecture Students Association of Ghana and the software as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The owner’s title for this listing names the event rather than the deliverable the blog titled, and the client’s own site uses the same wording.
The association’s site never went past its opening post, so no venue, programme or speaker list is recorded here — the poster is the whole surviving record of the week, and it does not name a town, so this listing carries only the bare Ghana the association works from.
The studio had already worked for the same client twice before. In February 2009 it published the ASAG constitution cover — a document spread, front and back in one blue field. That is a different job on a different format for the same association: the two share a client and nothing else, and the frames are proved apart. The source post is on blogspot — ASAG design week poster, 7 June 2012 — and the association’s own announcement is at asagdesignweek.wordpress.com.
