The studio’s own note is unusually candid about how the work was going when the poster came out: “The past few weeks have been challenging for us … Having to put school work and REVIVAL work on the same pedestal really put the heat on us but we (jude, kwahmi and kofi) have done our best.” The job it announces is described in one line — “Just recently we worked on a poster for the RHYME and JAZZ event at Typhoon(Evandy, Bomso) here in Ghana.”
Everything else the listing knows is printed on the sheet itself. The event was held on 11 April 2009 at seven in the evening, the venue is given as Typhoon, Evandy Hostel, the music is “LIVE JAZZ MUSIC BY JAZZ BASIN”, admission was GHC 4 with tickets at the gate, and three contact numbers run down the left. The post went up on 8 May 2009, a month after the date on the artwork, so the year is stated twice by the studio rather than inferred.
The poster is built in two colours and one gradient. The name is set in a very tall, narrow display face tilted off the horizontal, washed from magenta at the foot of the sheet to yellow at the top, with six stars struck in a row under it; opposite it a flat yellow silhouette of a saxophonist plays into the corner. Concentric rings at the left read as a record label, the date is carried by an oversized 11, and the information — venue, time, price, act, numbers — is set as part of the composition rather than stacked under it.
The venue places the job outside Accra: the post gives Evandy, Bomso, which is Kumasi, so this is listed as Kumasi work even though the studio made it in Accra. A yellow strip along the foot of the sheet carries REVIVALGH.BLOGSPOT.COM and a contact number, the studio’s own credit band on a piece it was distributing around the event.
The project is on blogspot.
